CHS Class of 1975 Reunion |
WHAT A GREAT WEEKEND!!!!
For those who attended, Thanks for being here!
For those who helped plan and execute the weekend, THANKS EVEN MORE!!!!
If you missed it, here is what went down:
Friday afternoon: Golf outing at Duck Creek. I think the players had a good time but it was a very small turnout, probably because Tom May couldn't be there. Tom has always organized the outings, and he even did so this time, but could not be there, so Thanks Tom for your efforts!
Friday night was a total blast. We had the parking lot of Dalton's (3rd and Harrison) and the big treat for most people (HUGE treat for me) was that Karl Young and I organized a band to play. Karl recruited his pals from Natty Scratch to come and play for free, and I got to play with them. Joanie kindly passed the hat and people contributed just enough to cover the cost of the PA and lights that I rented and set up. We, the band, were loud enough that a few people (read: Karinda) lost their voices but what kind of a rock band plays so softly that everyone can sit and talk? Murph and the Mellowtones? Nah - that ain't us. We had to quit a little earlier than expected but had a great time.
One highlight - getting Brian Barkley to sit in on drums for a set, which included ME singing a couple of ZZ Top tunes. OK, it was only a highlight for me, but it was a highlight just the same. :)
Saturday Morning: Not a whole lot but a few hearty souls were up and at CHS at 10:00 am Saturday for a tour of the facilities. I know it does not sound exciting but they've done great things with that school, so thanks to those who went.
Saturday Night: Buffet dinner and drinks at the Outing Club. (My apologies to all for the price of drinks; I was a little surprised and will feed that back to the board of directors). But it was a beautiful evening and the food was really good. And we had a DJ and Kareoke thanks to Brian Lang and that turned out to be a lot of fun. I never thought that Karoke (how do you spell that, anyway? My spell-check does not do Japanese) would be so much fun. Interesting that Brian Lang, who hired the guy, did not sing a song....
I think we had around 80 people at the Outing Club and probably 125 or so at Dalton's.
Many thanks to the following people who planned the reunion, and please forgive me and/or send hate mail if I miss anyone:
Joan Andresen Porter
Karinda Reid Richard
Debbie Jepsen
Jan Justin Potter
Brian Lang
Brad Keeling
Barbie Schneff
I know I'm forgetting someone and as soon as I figure it out, I'll update
again. I'm trying to mentally look around the table at 11th St.
Precinct.....let's count the ashtrays.....
NOW FOR AN IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:
Many people have sent in their updated mailing addresses and email addresses. Thanks for doing that, and I'll enter them into the database.
HOWEVER......
We are moving rapidly towards a point where we do not call, email, US Mail, etc. anyone. Probably from this point forward, if you are interested in attending the next class reunion, you will need to look for info on the web.
Sorry to all who don't like computers and/or the internet, but it's here to stay and reunions are becoming cost-prohibitive if you do them the old-fashioned way, with mailings. Ten years ago we spent around $400 doing mailings because we did two of them. Right now we don't have nearly $400 (much less, in fact) for mailings. This is especially important since so many always come back as "undeliverable".
Having all of you come to us via the website will help keep the costs down because we won't have to mark things up to pay for postage, copies, paper, etc.
To keep track of what's going on, please direct people to the CHS web site, which is www.davenportschools.org/central/ and then go to the Alumni section and you'll see a spot for reunions.
I'll update this as photos come
in - I expect some great shots because Brian Barkley was there and he's a
pro...
Thanks!
John
